Sakartvelo 2018-2024
Between 2019 and 2022, I was based in Georgia. With a camera and time, I explored buildings shaped by empire, ideology, and survival.
This series focuses on spaces often overlooked. I photographed abandoned Soviet sanatoriums in Tskaltubo, crumbling housing blocks and cable car stations in Chiatura, and faded cultural halls in Kutaisi and Gori. In Tbilisi, I spent time in hidden corners where wooden balconies lean above locked courtyards. In Batumi, I found semi-used public buildings still clinging to function.
Many of these places have been left to deteriorate. Others are in quiet use—kept alive by caretakers, residents, or repurposed for new needs. Some sit in between, waiting for a decision. These photos document a built environment in transition.
